DC Earned Income Tax Credit

Don't miss out on important tax benefits this year—claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)! The EITC is a special tax break designed specifically for low- and moderate-income workers. People who qualify for the EITC will pay less in taxes or even get cash back. Workers can get the EITC even if they don't owe any income taxes or worked only a very short time.

There are currently two EITCs—one provided by the federal government, and another provided by the District of Columbia government. To get the federal EITC, taxpayers must file a federal tax return (Form 1040 or 1040A) and attach a special form called Schedule EIC. To get the DC EITC, taxpayers must file a DC income tax form and attach a copy of their federal tax return. More than 44,000 DC households have benefited from the local credit.

The DC EITC Campaign is working to ensure that District residents know about and claim these valuable tax credits and is offering places where residents can go to get their taxes done for free. To learn more about the campaign, the locations of free tax assistance sites, or to receive outreach materials, visit the DC Fiscal Policy Institute's website or call (202) 408-1080.
