Office of Tax and Revenue Mails 2004 First Half Real Property Tax Bills

(Washington, DC) The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) today announced that more than 150,000 real property tax bills for the 2004 First Half Real Property Tax Year were mailed to District property owners. These tax bills reflect current and past due real property tax liabilities. The due date for payment is Wednesday, March 31.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse individuals from paying taxes owed. If a tax payment is late, the property owner will be charged a 10 percent penalty and a 1.5 percent interest fee for each full or partial month the payment is late. If the property owner’s mortgage company makes the payment of their real property tax bill, the property owner must ensure that payments are made by the due date.

Property owners should be aware that if they have a case appealing their 2003 assessment still pending before the Board of Real Property Assessments and Appeals, they will not have any changes as a result of their case reflected in their first half bill.

For more information about real property tax bills and credits you may qualify for, call (202) 727-4TAX (727-4829).
