DC Office of Tax and Revenue Announces Relief for Victims of Attacks
(WASHINGTON, DC) The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue today announced temporary tax relief for individual and business taxpayers who are unable to meet their District tax obligations because they were affected by Tuesday's terrorist attacks.
The policy of the Office of Tax and Revenue is to support the victims of this disaster by granting to individuals a temporary extension of the filing deadline for returns and payments without charging penalty and interest. Affected taxpayers should indicate the following in red ink at the top of returns they file: September 11, 2001-Terrorist Attack.
"During this tragedy, businesses totally dedicated to the recovery effort and individuals suffering personal losses are not able to meet their tax obligations. We want to support these individuals and businesses as they identify themselves, " said Deputy Chief Financial Officer Herbert J. Huff.
Due to the unprecedented magnitude of this tragedy, the Office of Tax and Revenue will continue to monitor the situation and issue additional guidance as needed.
